The 2.6 challenge

Perhaps now more than ever, communities like yours should feel able to recognise and support those thinking of suicide. That’s where we come in.

Unfortunately, as with many charities, Coronavirus has hurt out work. It’s caused the postponement and cancellation of fundraising events around the UK. So, charities have been left struggling to maintain their services and plan for the future.

The 2.6 challenge was launched in response. On Sunday 26 April, fundraisers and charity activists set themselves challenges around the number 2.6.

We had a range of amazing home heroes fundraising for Grassroots – from the fit to the frankly obscure! Runners doing 26km, people skipping for 2.6 minutes, 260 kick ups with a football, yoga classes teaching 26 poses, 26 tap dancing jumps – and our very own Development Manager Michael running backwards for 2.6km! Our absolute favourite was 4 year old Val hopping on his bed 26 times, followed by a triumphant celebration.

Thank you to Val and all the fundraisers – a truly amazing and creative effort! Together, they raised over £2,000 with more to come. These vital funds will help us adapt our work and continue to help communities become safe from suicide.

We’ve launched our own Coronavirus appeal to help support our lifesaving work. You can donate directly, or, if you’re feeling adventurous you can set up your own virtual fundraising event.

We’ve also seen an increase in our fitness and running supporters– if this is you, we have charity spaces for the Brighton Marathon 2021 full race, 10k and cycle with your name on it. All incredible opportunities to help prevent suicide.
